Incidents Of The Life
Various incidents from the life of this Vaidyaraj can inspire us a lot. Let us, recollect a few such incidents.
Around the year 1960 , a symposium of Gujarat Shuddha Ayurveda Mandal was organised at Nadiad.Renewed ayurvedic physicians like Shri Rasiklal Vaidya, Somabhai Vaidya, JadavjiVaidya Patadiwalaand others approached VaidyarajJagannathji for contribution and briefed him about the conference. Jagannathji said: "if vaidyas from all over Gujarat get together at Nadiad. our town will be blessed.VaidyoNarayano Hari. It would be my privilege to welcome them. Don't worry. I am ready to sponsor the entire cost of organizing this conference. "Vaidyaraj asked his son Shri Shivabhai Vaidya, who was thePrincipal of Ayurvedic College of Nadiad, to manage financial affairs of the whole conference. Thus, entireexpenses of lunch and dinner of more than a thousand delegates were by Vaidyaraj.
One "dandi swami: (staff carrying sage) had arrived in Santram Temple on Nadia around the year 1969.whose diet is comprised of tree leaves only. This sage wanted to conduct a Yatirudra Yagna (sacrificialrite). for which he approached VaidyarajJagannathji to get a donation. After understanding his plans. Vaidyaraj asked how much ghee would be needed for the yagna. The sage said around eleven cans ofghee were required. Hearing this Vaidyaraj said, "You do not need to requestanyone for funds toperform such a religious ceremony. I will make sure that eleven cans of ghee reach you as required."Thus. Vaidyaraj provided eleven cans of pure ghee for yagnya without any hesitation.β
This incident occurred when Vaidyaraj was employed at the charitable clinic of ShethDharmsukhrajTansukhram. Sheth'spregnant daughter was having some difficulty while delivering baby, soVaidyaraiwas called for assistance. Vaidyaraj said "1 cannot though a woman delivering baby, because a Brahminlike me will have to observe extremely intricate Chandrayanvrat after doing so. please, seek treatmentfrom someoneelse now. I will cure the patient later. "Sheth was so much impressed with this frankness ofVaidyaraj, that he doubled his salary effective from that day itself, as a reward forVaidyaraj's firm faith inreligion.
Inspiredby being very religious and workaholic, Vaidyaraj had a very temperamental Personality. Hereacted very strongly against disobedience and dishonestly. If a patient did not follow his prescribed dietstrictly. Vaidyaraj would take him to task without being intimidated by his social stature. Vaidyaraj wouldget rather annoyed when Patients would bring ghee, Vegetables, Food grains and fruits etc as gifts to please him. At times, when he could not shun them, he would pass on such gifts to clinicemployees or the poor. He never accepted such things; as he considered them as bribes.
Vaidyaraj always acted with great courage, integrity and dignity in all events of life, serving people, especially the underprivileged, saints and Brahmins, with great compassion. He never backed downfrom giving contributionsto religious causes. Considering all his wealth as belonging to God, he wasalways ready to put it to good use. Viadyaraj endorsed great simplicity in his lifestyle and urged hisfamily to pursue the same. However, he also made sure that they lived a comfortable life, thus fulfillinghis duties towards family and work.
Once a senior patient forcibly presented a can of ghee to Vaidyaraj. But Vaidyaraj's heart could not asallow this and he straight went to Sheth to submit the can. Sheth also tenderly convinced Vaidyaraj tokeep the ghee. This was the only incident when Vaidyaraj had accepted any gift from a patient, which herepented a lot throughout his life.
During the last thirty years of his life, Vaidyaraj stopped consuming salt completely and took mealsonly once a day. He used to make bath three times a day - in the morning, at 4 O'clock in the afternoonand at the night, using cold water only throughout the year. In 1972, he passed away at the age of ninety worshipping God, without suffering any illness. Just like his life, his death was as serence andsimple.
